A pop-up exhibition of work by emerging new artists opens later this month at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

The exhibition, entitled The London Project, is being curated by Gerson Zevi, a European/American partnership that buys and sells contemporary art.

Rather than having a permanent show space, the partnership has an on-line art gallery and an on-going series of pop-up events at international venues.

The sculpture park will be hosting works by Adeline de Monseignat, Camilla Emson, Luke Hart, Steve Hurtado, David Murphy, Yana Naidenov, Sofia Stevi and Chris Wilcox.

Exploring traditional sculptural themes, but in different ways, the exhibition is showcasing the work of a number of young British sculptors, as well as those based in New York.

One of the participants, David Murphy, will be taking up an artist residency at the YSP in spring 2014. Originally from Newcastle, David studied at Glasgow School of Art before settling in London. He recently exhibited at Young English Sculptors in Switzerland.

YSP curator Dr Helen Pheby, said: “Supporting artists at all stages of their careers is central to YSP’s mission and we’re proud of our track record of providing artists, now well-established, with significant breakthrough opportunities.”

To celebrate the launch of The London Project on Saturday, November 30, visitors to the YSP will be invited to drop in and meet the exhibition’s artists and curators and see a performance by one of the exhibitors, Camilla Emson, from 3pm until 4pm.

Camilla is a City and Guilds of London Art School graduate and has a Masters in Fine Art Painting and Sculpture.

She works with malleable materials, using techniques such as knitting, wrapping, blowing and entangling.

Adeline de Monseignat, originally from Monaco, lives and works in London. She graduated from City and Guilds of London Art School, in 2011, with a MA in Fine Art.

Chris Willcox lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He was born in Washington DC and attended Washington University, where he studied painting and philosophy and took part in a painting and printmaking exchange programme at Glasgow School of Art.

Luke Hart studied at the Pratt Institute in New York before completing a MA in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art this year. Luke has a keen interest in how things are made and how they function, working with pioneering materials such as polyurethane and medical grade silicone.

Athens-born painter and sculptor Sofia Stevi completed a MA in Communication Design in 2009, at Central St Martin’s College. She uses familiar, discarded objects as a starting point to create new assemblies of colour and form, which find new purpose and meaning.

Steve Hurtado is a London-based artist who graduated from Middlesex University in 2010 with a BA in Fine Art.

Yana Naidenov is originally from Mozambique and recently graduated from the Royal College of Art, London. Living and working in London, Yana transforms and rediscovers commonplace materials within her practice.

The London Project can be seen until January 5, weekends only.
