IT’S a popular start to the weekend. A club where youngsters can be creative.

Huddersfield Art Gallery hosts a popular art club and a writing club.

Both are on Saturday mornings. They aim to inspire youngsters and get them to express themselves.

The Saturday Art Club runs monthly. It is for children aged between four and 12. The next sessions are tomorrow between 10.30am and 12.30pm and 1.30 to 3.30pm.

Artist Helen Moore will lead a series of activities using the art in the gallery as inspiration.

There’s a chance to try painting, sculpture, printmaking and drawing.

Sessions are also diaried for May 24, June 28 and July 12.

Places are limited, so youngsters are advised to book now for the summer term.

The gallery, at Princess Alexandra Walk, also hosts the monthly family Writing Group, led by poet and playwright Rommi Smith.

This also uses the gallery’s exhibitions to encourage creativity.

New dates for the group are April 26, May 31, June 21 and July 19, all from 11am to 1pm. It costs £2 per adult and £1 per child (unless otherwise stated) with tea, coffee, biscuits and fruit included.
