Castle Hill

Standing over 900 feet above sea level Castle Hill dominates the Huddersfield landscape, providing spectacular, often windswept views and appears on the Examiner's masthead. The site, off Lumb Lane, Almondbury, is a scheduled ancient monument and its history goes back more than 4,000 years. The site has been an iron age hill fort, complete with defensive ditches plus in the Middle Ages it was home to a castle. Perched on Castle Hill, Victoria Tower was completed in 1899 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria's reign.
