GET your kicks when a feast of martial arts comes to Huddersfield.

Martial Arts Illustrated Live comes to Huddersfield Sports Centre, on December 12, featuring seasoned practitioners of karate, kickboxing, ninjutsu and other martial arts.

And topping the bill is Britain’s Got Talent 2015 finalist Jesse-Jane McParland.

The 10-year-old, sword-wielding mini ninja, from Northern Ireland, was placed eighth on the hit ITV show earlier this year and has appeared on the US prime time Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The event, organised by the Huddersfield-based magazine Martial Arts Illustrated, also features Welsh martial arts stuntman Aaron ‘The Ginger Ninja Trickster’ Gassor.

There’ll also be local representation from Springwood DJ and karate expert, Nisar Smiler and World, European and British kickboxing champion Oliver Sykes, from Linthwaite.

Oliver’s dad and Martial Arts Illustrated editor, Bob Sykes, said the event aimed to showcase the lighter, more family-friendly side of martial arts.

Bob said: “Rather than a combat competition, we wanted to put something on that was good, wholesome family entertainment . We’re serving up breath-taking demonstrations, rather than fights.

“Everything is geared towards making it incredibly inclusive: no shouting, swearing or spilt blood – we promise!

“The calibre of line-up is normally associated with the bigger cities – and we did have offers to stage the event in Leeds and Manchester – but being a Huddersfield business, with strong links to the local community, we decided to stage it here.

“We wanted to give something back to the town, and let as many Kirklees residents as possible view it.

“It’s going to be an unforgettable night of entertainment .”

Bob, who teaches at Colne Valley Black Belt Academy, Linthwaite, added: “Jesse-Jane has so many world titles and she’s just 10.

“It’s incredible for her to be coming over here.”
