Elly was at Lepton County First School with owner Miss Joan Donnelly (left), of Huddersfield Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, The children are among 55 members of Huddersfield Junior Youth Choir taking part in a concert with Colne Valley Wind Band to raise money for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. Mrs Beth Sharp, conductor of the Youth Choir is organising the concert at Colne Valley High School. Laura and Helen are from the County First School, and Andrea is from Lepton CE First School. 2nd December 1985.5 of 20Traders at the Market Hall held a fun night for shoppers by donning fancy dress and running competitions. Among them were sweet shop owners Bennie Dyson and his daughter, Ellen Thurlow. 12th December 1985.6 of 20Scouts from Huddersfield South-East district pictured before competing for the Abbey National Trophy at Cambridge Road Baths. Seven groups took part in the annual gala and the trophy was won by the 28th Kirkburton. Other teams were from Denby Dale, Lepton, Kirkheaton, Shepley, Emley and Clayton West. 7th December 1985.7 of 20Four trophies and around 70 medals were presented to members of Bradley Majorettes Ð some of them pictured above. The presentation evening at Bradley Youth Club followed an afternoon fund-raising fair, with stalls manned by parents and committee members and which ended in a disco. 7th December 1985.8 of 20The bells, the bells... The Christmas play is being performed by the older children of Lepton CofE play, Neddy The Donkey, is being staged by the younger pupils. A performance for parents, grandparents and friends was staged last night and there will be another tomorrow. 9th December 1985.9 of 20These four Newsome cubs came out trophy winners twice over in a district wide competition to test their knowledge of safety. They beat 13 other teams to take the annual trophy Ð and two of them received a special award after impressing police with their road safety skills. The nine-year-olds Ð Steven Fitzgerald (left), Darren Haywood, (back), Matthew Keeling (front) and Ben Beardsall Ð come from Omega pack of the 45th Newsome cubs. Ben and Matthew were awarded special police trophies. Father Christmas later handed out presents. 17th December 1985.12 of 20Headmaster Mr David Mills Daniel with two of the 420 pupils at St David's School, Paddock, who have given hundreds of toys for charity. Most will go to Kirklees Social Services for local children's homes and some are for the Huddersfield Mencap Centre.
