This is the terrifying moment a driver risks his life by swerving off and exiting at a junction of the M62 at the very last minute.

The footage, taken by a dashcam, shows a Volkswagen Golf braking sharply before swerving across two lanes and off the M62 at its junction 17.

In the video, the vehicle is shown to come to a halt as it is nearly passed the junction, near Prestwich in Greater Manchester.

And then before passing it completely the car turns at almost a 90 degree angle so that it can navigate across the no-entry markings and off the road.

After making his way off the carriageway, the ‘dangerous’ driver is then captured carrying on up the exit out of the shot.

The footage was filmed on Monday, February 22 by engineer Martin White, 43, who said he couldn’t believe it when he first saw the car making the manoeuvre.

He said: “It was about 9.30am in the morning and I was driving to Bolton to see a client and that’s when I saw it.

“It was incredibly dangerous, I am amazed that the driver wasn’t taken out by someone coming up behind them. They were very very lucky in my opinion.

“I have been driving for 20 years and I don’t think I have ever seen something like that.

“When you’re on the motorway you don’t know how fast cars behind you are going and so to do something like this is unbelievable.”

Amazingly it was the second time that day that Martin had witnessed someone veering across the motorway to exit off a slip-road.

Martin, who lives in Yorkshire, said: “About an hour before I saw another car do exactly the same thing - veer across lanes at speed to exit the motorway. I couldn’t believe it.”
