“LIFT up your chin – both of them.”

Ah, the joys of a photo session with ace Examiner lens man Andy ‘Catch’ Catchpool (pictured).

I suspect dozens of other Huddersfield residents have been on the receiving end of that little quip in the past 30 years while posing for Shepley’s finest.

The result of Andy’s snapping is on display at the top of this page as the Examiner refreshes its columnists’ byline pics.

I’ll be opening the paper with some trepidation this morning as I don’t know which of the many photos Catch took last Tuesday has been chosen.

If it’s one which makes me look half-decent, then fair play to Andy for making the best of a bad job.

I just hope the picture featuring at the top of page 6 every Wednesday from now on doesn’t show some haggard, squinty, greying, exhausted hack looking more than his 33 years.

I quite liked the old byline photo which adorned this column for years, but unfortunately its continuing presence was stretching credulity.

The fresh-faced 20-something shown smiling at the top of the page was no longer an accurate reflection of the man who wrote the words featured underneath.

Years at the journalistic coalface have added the creases and worry lines which I presume you can now see.

Today’s new picture confirms that I am older. I will leave it to regular readers to judge if I am any wiser.
