Singer Marlene VerPlanck, who provided backing vocals for some of America’s biggest names including Frank Sinatra, will launch the Lawrence Batley Theatre’s new jazz season on Saturday, March 28.

Currently on a UK tour, Marlene can look back at a career spanning several decades and has become well loved for her crystal clear voice, first heard anonymously on radio and television advertising jingles in the 1950s. In America she is known for her Campbell’s Soup adverts.

As a young singer she was part of the big band sound and then became a studio singer, working with many famous artistes and musical ensembles, including the Glenn Miller Orchestra. She has been recording since 1955 and recently released a new album, ‘Ballads mostly’, which is her 23rd.

Marlene, who was born in New Jersey and married to the musician/arranger Billy VerPlanck, now performs across North America and Western Europe. Her concert at the LBT starts at 8pm.
