NOTHING is a surprise in football these days.

I would like to say it was a massive shock that Simon Grayson has left as Town manager, but after what happened to Nigel Adkins at Southampton it really is not a surprise.

Everything is a fine line in football these days and while Grayson got Town over the line in terms of promotion last season, you have to remember in the play-off shoot-out they missed their first three attempts and were going out – would Grayson have stayed had promotion not been achieved?

But having got Town up, Grayson and Town made a great start to the Championship this season and were perhaps thinking the division was a piece of cake.

Since then key striker James Vaughan has been troubled with injuries, and then the squad has been further weakened and suddenly Town are looking at 12 league games with no wins and some poor away performances.

Town essentially lost their early momentum and it can be hard to get momentum back and Grayson seems to have suffered because of that.

Adkins was installed for the Town job at 7/4 initially, but he is pretty much the only person that people wanted to back and his odds have rapidly dropped.

Whether some people are in the know, or whether they are just guessing, you have to say that he will appeal as he is a top manager and you can only be impressed by what he has done at Southampton.

Among others we have included is Gareth Southgate. While he has a top job at the FA, he desperately wants to get back in as a club manager and living in Harrogate would be well placed to take on the Town job.

And I just have to clear up why I’m in there at 200-1.

When Lee Clark left Town I was quoted at 500-1 only to find that a Plymouth fan who applied for Argyle job soon after was quoted at 200-1 – so I have insisted I go in for the Town job at the same price!

NEXT week I will be back at Town for the Championship clash with Crystal Palace.

While I have watched Town on the television a couple of times this season, it will be the first time in a while that I have been back at the ground.

I have been asked by the club to come and talk at the White Rose Club.

I am looking forward to meeting the fans at the game, and I have to say I am really looking forward to seeing the team live for the first time this season and hopefully get the win that would start to put their season back on track.
