SOCIAL networking site Badoo carried out research to investigate the rising number of cougars resident in the UK.
Not the wild animal but the human female variety.
A cougar, apparently, is a term used to describe older women who go hunting in a predatory fashion for men younger than themselves.
The survey was inspired after TV personality Caroline Flack, who is 32, attracted a great deal of publicity for dating 17-year-old Harry Styles, from boy band One Direction.
It found that 50 percent of women now date toy boys.
Other ladies who have been attracted to chaps sometimes much younger than themselves include Madonna, Mariah Carey, Katy Price and Mrs Robinson.
Of course it has been quite commonplace for old and wealthy men to choose much younger women. Still happens. Look at Hugh Heffner. I mean, does he attract all those young ladies purely through the strength of his personality?
Now a modern trend has started in America where older ladies go hunting for younger men.
This causes me a twinge of sadness. Not because I disapprove of the trend, but because it has come far too late. Many years ago, when I was a 16-year-old callow youth, my burning ambition was to be a toy boy.
Never mind Mrs Robinson, you should have seen Mrs Brewster. A blonde lady in her late thirties, she was the mother of my chum, and I was gaga for her. I sadly never received any encouragement, which was probably just as well. Mr Brewster was a big bloke.
I can’t imagine I would have heard Simon and Garfunkel songs if he had suspected an affair. Just thumps and clouts. Mind you, it would have been worth it.
