MOLLICAR Woods at Almondbury are famous for the annual Sing that has been held there for more than 100 years every Whit Sunday.
It started in 1903 when the choir at Zion Methodist Church went there in the early morning to practice without disturbing their neighbours.
It is also a well known beauty spot that has been enjoyed by generations of local people.
But how did it get its name?
Roger Gill, of Lepton, found the question being posed on a family history site and thought an Examiner reader is bound to know.
The request is from Maureen Mitchell, who describes herself as a Yorkshire Tyke living in Norfolk.
“Does anyone know the origin of the name Mollicar or Molly Carr Wood? I have lovely childhood memories of walking there.”
