A PHOTOGRAPH taken in 1979 of Huddersfield Mods recently turned up on eBay as a painting.

It was spotted by lifelong mod Bob Monkhouse, who is featured in it, along with his then girlfriend Sue, who has since been his wife for 31 years.

Bob and Sue are on the right of the picture. On the far left is Vic Szczesniwicz. Sid and Tony Ruttle are in the middle.

The scooter rider on the left is unknown.

Vic, Sid and Tony were part of Huddersfield's mod revival band Killermeters, who came so very close to making it big.

Their records have become collectors’ items.

Bob and Sue were friends, as well as Mods, and the photograph, from which the painting was done, was taken for Sounds magazine, which gave Killermeters a big spread.

Bob and Sue remained mods.

“We continued going ‘down Wigan' till it shut,” says Bob. “We're still involved with the scooters and Northern Soul. The photograph is actually in a book on youth fashions – so we're famous!”

He also recommends a current local band worth looking out for: Redstar. “Not my kind of music, but they are very good.’’
