I WAS disappointed when I read a list of sayings used by dads.

They ranged from “Do you think I’m made of money” through “thick as two short planks” to “I’m not sleeping, I’m just resting my eyes.”

These were all mentioned in a survey and, yes, they no doubt do strike a chord in the memories of many about what their fathers used to say and probably still do.

But the one my daughters grew up with does not even make the top 10.

Surely, I couldn’t have been the only father to say to their offspring: “Pull my finger.”
