YOU would have thought that after 200 years, The White House pub, on the moors between Meltham and Slaithwaite, would have had a ghost.

And now a reader claims it does.

The pub closed after a long and illustrious history, and could be turned into residential units.

In recent weeks, this column has recounted some of the characters who lived there and its colourful past.

Reader Margaret Helen Smith said: “One gentleman said he remembered the pianist and the barmaid who was a Miss Marple lookalike.

“Well, I think lots of people will remember her as she worked there for 20 years.

“She told many a tale about the pub and about the ghost that showed itself on several occasions.

“I am surprised no-one has mentioned him.”

Does anyone know the ghost story?
