AT one time, this handsome silver cup must have been held high in pride when it was awarded. But now it is battered and bent.

A reader, who found it in a skip, gave it to me to discover if anyone know its history.

On the front it says: Lepton District School Nursing Association Sports Cup. On the reverse are engraved the names of a short list of winners. Middlestown Council won it in 1932 and 1933; it went to Lepton Council for the next two years; then to Kirkburton Council Senior; back to Lepton; then to Kirkburton Senior School; and finally, in 1939, it was shared by Flockton National and Kirkburton Senior.

Presumably the start of the Second World War in 1939 had something to do with it no longer being competed for or awarded.

But were the winners schools or nursing establishments, and what sort of competition was involved? Does anyone know?
