ROBIN Gibb sadly died this week and the great and good of the music business have all paid tribute to a talent gone too soon.

It is at times like this that we remember amusing anecdotes about the lately departed to lighten the passing.

Such as the time Billy Keenan appeared on stage with the Bee Gees at Bradford Town Hall.

The story is told by Barry Haigh, of Lockwood.

Billy went to the gig with his brothers, Dave Keenan the DJ and singer Alec Keenan. Somehow, Billy had made his way to the basement of the hall.

“He tripped over wires and cables before he came to a door above his head. When he opened it, to his astonishment, he was behind the Bee Gees on stage.

Dave said he looked like a chimney sweep when his head popped up. The crowd were amazed to see him but the Bee Gees played on, unaware of Bill’s antics.

“He went back to his seat to watch them and said they were brilliant. It was only fun. Today, he would have been thrown out, but it was a laugh then. That’s Bill’s claim to fame.”

Not a bad claim, either.

Can anybody top that for unlikely appearances with the stars?
