FORGET shopping and gardening this weekend and settle down for two fantastic sporting events.

Firstly, tomorrow morning, don’t miss the final rugby union Test between Australia and the British & Irish Lions in Sydney.

Then, on Sunday, the TV has to be tuned top the Wimbledon men’s singles final, which I believe will be between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic.

With the rugby union, even if you are not a fan, you have to marvel at the absolute power which Australia and the Lions produce.

They are very evenly-matched teams and they create an event which you just can’t take your eyes off.

There haven’t been more than a couple of points between them throughout the two Tests so far and it wouldn’t surprise me if tomorrow’s decider finished as a draw!

Much has been made of Brian O’Driscoll being dropped and the changes being made by the Lions and, from a betting point of view, the momentum is certainly with Australia to clinch the series.

But matches like this one are the reason why rugby union players take up the game, and to pull on a Lions shirt and win a series in South Africa, New Zealand or Australia is as good as it gets – so they have every incentive.

With Wimbledon, if it is Murray and Djokovic then I would expect it to be a five-set thriller.

Murray hasn’t produced scintillating tennis so far, but you don’t need to in the rounds – you just need to do enough, not be at your best all the time.

I really think that having won the Olympic title on Centre Court, Murray has the mental strength now to win this tournament.

He looks more stable and balanced and the way he handled that ridiculous BBC interview shows he is more mature than he was a few years ago.

Having mentioned Murray and the Lions, I don’t think I’ll be having a bet on either – and I know I shouldn’t be saying that as a bookmaker!

My own feeling is that these two events can just be enjoyed, so I will point you in the direction of the Ashes to have a little wager.

It all starts on Wednesday, of course, with England the favourites to defeat the Australians again and retain the urn – and at Skybet we are providing a ‘price boost’ on a 5-0 England series win, which you can take at 16-1 anytime up to the start of play.

Australia were beaten 4-0 in India and, back in 2006-07, they whitewashed us Down Under, so I don’t think it’s a bad price to be offered.

And my footnote this week is simply to say ‘well done Town’.

James Vaughan is a huge signing for the club and shows their intentions – he’s a really good player to bring in.
