Huddersfield’s Byram Arcade is rapidly becoming the place to buy limited edition fashions direct from the designers themselves. HILARIE STELFOX reports

IN THE last few weeks three new fashion outlets have sprung up in Huddersfield’s Byram Arcade.

There would be nothing too remarkable about this if it wasn’t for the fact that all three boutiques sell garments that have been designed by the owners of the shops.

The Victorian arcade is becoming a centre for young designers, all eager to stamp their distinctive mark on the fashion business.

Back in February I reported on the new enterprise by former Huddersfield University fashion student Memoonah Latif, who opened Meem on the ground floor of the arcade.

Memoonah, 25 designs contemporary tailored women’s clothes and was inspired to start her own label after completing a work placement with Alexander McQueen.

Today we’re taking a look at two other young designers offering shoppers something different from the big retail chains.
