THE winner of our Pronuptia and Boots Bride of the Year competition, Hannah Croughan, got a taste of what her big day will be like when we gave her a full bridal make-over as part of her prize.

Hannah, 32, of Golcar, also won a dress up to the value of £1,000 from Pronuptia in King Street, a luxury hamper of skincare and cosmetics from Boots and a tooth-whitening treatment at The Courtyard Dental Practice in Huddersfield.

The young mum, who has a two-year-old daughter, Lily, was thrilled to take the title and says she can’t wait for her wedding on the first day of spring next year. She and her fiance, Andy Sill, will be travelling to Langdale Chase in the English Lake District for their marriage ceremony.

Hannah had yet to find the perfect bridal dress, but believes she has now made her choice – to be kept a secret until her special day.

For our make-over photoshoot she modelled just two of the many gowns she tried at Pronuptia.

Hannah said: “There are so many lovely dresses that it was really hard to choose. But I think you know when you get the right one because it just feels right. You feel wonderful in it.’’

Helping Hannah to make her choice was chief bridesmaid Nicola Valerio, who is almost as excited about the wedding as her friend. Hannah’s daughter, who will be three by the time of the wedding, is also to be a bridesmaid.

We took our bride-to-be to Rubens in Westgate for a hair ‘put-up’ and to get some ideas for her wedding day. Stylist Aisha Lawrence suggested a loosely-curled style (see hair tips), which gave Hannah’s long, dark, but naturally quite straight hair a different, more glamorous look.

Then it was on to the Max Factor counter in Boots, where consultant Jo Burke gave Hannah a radiant complexion and highlighted her eyes.

Jo said: “It’s important on your wedding day to have make-up that enhances your features without being too heavy. Hannah has gorgeous eyes so she needs just a hint of neutral colour. Don’t be tempted to try out new make-up or go over-the-top on your big day.’’

At Pronuptia, manageress Paula Moores, advised that Hannah try as many dresses as possible, even those that she wasn’t sure about (see wedding gown tips).

“They often look quite different on the hanger to how they look when they’re worn,’’ she said.

Hannah, who is a physical development officer for the under-fives and works for Kirklees, is marrying an old school friend.

“We went to Moor End High School together but hadn’t seen each other for years,’’ said Hannah. “We met up on a night out in town two years ago and started going out. I always liked Andy at school, but he never knew and we didn’t keep in touch.’’

Hannah raised Lily from birth as a single parent and says that Andy, a team leader at Huddersfield Railway Station, is a great father to her daughter. In fact he has decided to take Hannah’s surname, which Lily has, so that they can all have the same name.
