NOW is the time to clear out all those unused, half-used and unwanted skin care products you have in your bathroom cabinet.

Until October 18, Boots in Huddersfield is offering customers the chance to swap old for new.

Take an old facial skin care product, or the remnants of one – any brand – to a participating counter and receive a free deluxe sample of something new.

This first-ever Great Big Skincare Swap is being run by brands including Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder, Clarins, Clinique, Lancome and Benefit.

This is also the time to take a fresh look at your make-up bag and stock it with the new autumn/winter colours.

Check out the seasonal limited edition collections. Clarins, for example, has a palette of glamorous but neutral shades especially for the festive season – glittering pearl, shimmering taupe, charcoal and soft russet brown.

The Eye Quartet Mineral Palettes, however, come in a wide range of seasonal colours and have been coordinated to supply a highlighter and eyeliner alongside two colours. The palettes cost £30 for four colours and are packaged in a durable metal container that is both beautiful and handbag proof.

Hairdressing and beauty students at Kirklees College’s Dewsbury Centre will be offering a day of treatments tomorrow to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity.

For a minimum donation of £2 the trainees will provide nail treatments, back massages and hair treatments at the Serenity salon at Halifax Road. The salon can be contacted on 01924 465916.

Huddersfield-based fashion retailer Bonmarche has a reputation for giving women of a certain age what they want. But, all credit to the chain, it does try to follow trends to attract younger customers. This season it has packed the rails with animal print merchandise, hot on the heels of the catwalk shows.

The top pictured left is just £12 and would suit someone who wants to be on trend but can’t quite get to grips with being encased in leopard print from head to foot.

Rising wage inflation in the Far East means catalogue home shopping company N Brown will “significantly” increase the amount of goods sourced from UK manufacturers. The firm is also concerned that it can take up to three months to get supplies from the Far East, which it views as unacceptable amid a period of strong competition in the fast-moving fashion industry.
