IT COULD be strongly argued that ‘real’ women make the best fashion models.

After all, it’s the woman in the street, with her imperfections, who buys the clothes seen on the catwalks. And they’re looking for outfits that don’t just look good on skinny, six foot models with legs up to their armpits.

Which is one of the reasons why the annual fashion show organised by the Breast Care nurses of the Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is such a great idea.

Not only does the show give former and current breast cancer patients the chance to strut their stuff, regain their confidence and celebrate their femininity, it is also an opportunity to see women of all ages, shapes and sizes looking great in a wide range of fashion.

This year, the event, which is taking place on Monday (September 21) at the Cedar Court Hotel, Huddersfield, will feature 35 women, most of whom either have had breast cancer or are still undergoing treatment. Aged between 34 and 79, the models will be dressed by fashion outlets in Huddersfield and Halifax.

Watch out for more on this event as I have been asked to be one of the models. It will be my first catwalk trip so I’m hoping to pick up some tips from the regulars.

The show is a sell-out so, I’m afraid, if you haven’t already got a ticket you’ll have to wait until next year.
