In need of fashion inspiration? Lisa Haynes delves into the wardrobes of supermodel Helena Christensen, TV star Kim Kardashian and radio DJ Jo Whiley for top tips we can all follow

WHILE it might be easier to look fabulous when top designers are knocking down your door, an A-List look still needs work.

So whether you prefer the supermodel, super-glam or super-mum approach to styling, three celebrities with completely different looks offer their expert advice.

KIM KARDASHIAN

Famed for her curves (and appearances on countless US reality shows) this stylish socialite knows how to ooze glamour.

Q: How would you describe your style?

“I love classic outfits injected with fun statement accessories like heels, jewellery and sunglasses. I always dress to flatter my body shape. A pair of high heels makes me feel tall and glamorous (the higher the heel, the better) and I love a good blazer with shoulder pads to accentuate my curvy figure. My dresses are usually cinched in at the waist for the same effect.”

Q: Who are your style inspirations?

“I love Rihanna’s edgy style and I’ve always looked up to Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham.”

Q: Favourite designers?

“My two favourite designers are Lanvin and Alexander McQueen – they make the most chic timeless pieces – but I also love mixing it up with high street brands and online sites like ShoeDazzle.”

Q: Favourite red carpet outfit?

“I love a little black dress and pair of towering heels to make me feel glamorous for a big night.”

Q:Top fashion tip?

“Dress for your body shape and you’ll always feel comfortable in what you wear.”

Kim Kardashian is chief stylist and co-founder of ShoeDazzle UK

HELENA CHRISTENSEN

Member of the 90s supermodel clan, this Danish beauty likes to let her clothes speak for themselves.

Q: How would you describe your style?

“I love vintage pieces. There is so much love, passion and effort in the craftsmanship – it just looks and feels different when you wear it so I think my style definitely has a historical feeling to it.”

Q: Who are your style inspirations?

“I’m inspired by women who stay true to themselves – you look at them and notice the little details and how things are put together. It’s beautiful when a woman has the self-confidence to show her personality in the extension of her outfit.”

Q: Favourite designers?

“It would be so hard to just mention a few. I like Japanese designers a lot for their quirky, recognisable style but then I also love the simplicity and elegance of Belgian designers.”

Q: Stand-out style moment?

“Working with the very old couture houses was a beautiful experience because you’d see a dress being made literally from the first stitch by an amazing team of seamstresses who had been in the company for over 50 years. You see the piece evolve because they keep fitting it on you – every piece is breathtaking.”

Q: Top fashion tip?

“Woman tend to forget that they should check themselves from all directions before they leave the house – I know I certainly do!”

Helena Christensen is the face of Triumph lingerie’s Essence range,

exclusive to John Lewis (www.johnlewis.com).

JO WHILEY

Radio DJ and keen festival-goer, the mum-of-four is known for her relaxed, high-end boho look.

Q: How would you describe your style?

“I used to be a goth and that look still appeals to this day. I’ll always go for black and still can’t shake the Dr Martens habit. My current favourites are black patent. Colour blocking has been quite a challenge, I can tell you! I guess my style is a cocktail of designer and high street.

Q: Who are your style inspirations?

“I love the look of Johnny Depp – I want to dress like a female version of him. Scruffy cool. Alexa Chung is in a league of her own – I love her style. I also adore Kristen Scott Thomas when it comes to looking classy.”

Q: Favourite designers?

“Isabel Marant, Chloe, Phillip Lim and Stella McCartney. American Vintage does the best T-shirts and American Apparel are fantastic for colour and fabric. For high street I love Urban Outfitters, Cos and Zara.”

Q: Favourite red carpet outfit?

“As much as I live and die in skinny jeans, I do love to wear gorgeous dresses and big heels on the red carpet. I wore a tangerine Stella McCartney dress to the Brits and felt a million dollars. Often you get lent something fabulous and for one night you live the dream until midnight, when you turn back into Cinders.”

Q: Top fashion tip?

“It’s a matter of knowing what suits you and what doesn’t and not being afraid to mix up pricey pieces with affordable bits.”
