Jonathan and Janine Chambers won a personal trainer for six months with the Examiner. They are about to complete their first month of training
SO far the going has been tough but they’ve lost an astonishing 21 lbs between them and are already starting to feel more energetic and healthier.
Janine, who has battled against a recurring sinus infection, has found that she enjoys exercise sessions in the swimming pool and has managed to shed 10 lbs; while Jonathan, who suffers from a back injury, has become an enthusiastic gym user.
The couple train twice a week with Chris Ball, who runs his own personal training company. They also use his on-line diet and lifestyle programmes and have made important changes to their eating habits.
Jonathan, who has lost 11lbs so far, has discovered that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and that he can manage without the large quantities of bread that he used to consume. He hasn’t missed a morning meal since the start of training and is now free of the irritable bowel symptoms that he once had.
Chris says: “Breakfast, believe it or not, helps to burn fat- we don’t take in any nutrients through the night but the body is still searching for energy stores. As a result it starts to look within for sources of energy. A breakfast high in protein and carbohydrates is important to refill empty supplies and prevent the body burning muscle tissue”.
Janine admits that she used to snack a lot after work in the evenings but has been following Chris’s diet plan, which includes favourite meals like roast dinners and curries. She says: “It’s amazing to not feel hungry, there is actually a lot of food to eat on the diet,” while Jonathan is impressed with the savings he makes each week not buying junk food.
Both Jonathan and Janine say having a personal trainer provides them with the motivation. “Chris also makes the exercise sessions interesting,’’ said Janine.
Jonathan added: “I can clearly see a difference in my body. Hopefully all the core exercises will be an end to the 25 tablets a day for my back”.
