1 Vegetables – now that ground temperatures have increased and day length has stretched out considerably, it is time to get the vegetable garden into full production. Keep on top of weed growth so that it does not get on top of you. Sow the following seeds directly into the soil: broad beans, summer cauliflowers and Brussels sprouts, land cress, leeks, onions, lettuce, parsnips, peas, spinach and turnips.

2 Fruit – search out some new fruit bushes to help make your garden a little more productive – blueberries, bilberries and cranberries grow well in a container with Ericaceous compost. Search out goji berries, self fertile kiwi’s such as ‘Jenny’, jostaberries, honeyberries, tummelberries, aronias, and Japanese wineberries. For larger, sheltered gardens look out for mulberries, quince, medlar, sloes and crab apples.
