` Despite the current enthusiasm for growing your own fruit and vegetables, flowers still form the basis of our British gardens and any reference book that helps us to choose the best and to get the best out of them must surely be a winner.

Well, Helen Yemm, in association with the RHS, has produced one of the RHS Grow Your Own series specifically on flowers.

It details around 100 of the best annuals and perennials for use in our garden, with recommendation for the best varieties to find, along with some excellent advice on how to care for these mad splashes of colour. RRP £16.99. Published by Mitchell Beazley. ISBN 978-1-84533-536-6.
