As the last of the autumn leaves fall, let them gather in quiet corners and then collect them up. Don’t bother chasing them around the garden!

Raise outdoor container grown plants up on bricks or similar to allow excess winter rains to drain away and help prevent root rots.

For live ones without roots, cut off the bottom 15cm (6ins) of the stem and put the tree in a large bucket of water outdoors for a few days before you take it into your lounge.
