I AM not backing Tottenham to get into the top four next season and, once again, they have managed to annoy a great many people.
Often I believe clubs and managers just don’t ‘get’ the watching public, so it was stupidity for Tottenham to play Gareth Bale (above) in their US Tour friendly the other night.
He went on and scored, but given that he withdrew from Team GB for the Olympics because of injury – he reported a back problem – then it’s a real slap in the face for him to then turn out even before the Olympic side had taken to the field.
Whoever made the decision and for whatever reason, it can only be a negative for Tottenham, given that it was a meaningless friendly and Bale was supposed to be too injured to take part in the biggest international event of them all.
