THE role of the Admiral Nurses is funded by a partnership between the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Dementia UK, Kirklees Council and NHS Kirklees.

Dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK and at least 4,100 in Kirklees.

There are over 100 types of dementia, the most common Alzheimer’s.

Obvious symptoms are memory loss, but it extends to difficulties with tasks and activities that require concentration and planning, changes in personality and mood and stiffness and slower movements.

There is no cure, but medication can slow the progression of the disease.
