THIS summer is excellent for yucca plants as Dalton reader Malcolm Sykes can testify.

The 74-year-old is amazed this yucca he has had for eight years has produced five flowers.

“This is the most it’s ever flowered,’’ he said. “It’s a beautiful plant with white and pink flowers.’’

Examiner Gardening expert Graham Porter said: “This is all due to a dry spell we had between August and October last year which really helped to ripen the wood.

“Yuccas have really benefited from this along with roses and we are seeing some spectacular examples.’’
