EVERY time I go into the Kingsgate Centre I feel a little faint. This has absolutely nothing to do with a fear of opening my wallet and goes away as soon as I enter a shop or store.

But the combination of shiny floor, high ceilinged windows and the open space echo seems to have an affect on my sense of balance and bodily control.

Which is a shame because Kingsgate has a terrific mix of retail premises, cafes and snacks.

I mentioned my condition to my wife Maria the other day as we passed T K Maxx and she said: “That’s funny. I have the same feeling.”

We are determined not to stop shopping in the Kingsgate Centre but we will take care in future, so please don’t stare too hard if you notice a couple of a certain age, equipped for an assault on the North Face who have made base camp at Greggs for hot food and sustenance.

We may be roped together as we make our way to Next with backs to the wall using crampons and ice axes.

You have been warned.
