Old faces who attended the legendary Builders Club almost 50 years ago will be out in force at The Vox Bar in Wood Street, Huddersfield, on Sunday.

Some in person but most in the photographic archive left by the late Brian Lawton, an enthusiastic supporter of the club.

The pictures will be part of the exhibition and music event Builders Club Revisited organised by Huddersfield University music journalist students, Heather Collins and Beatrix Matyas.

Liverpool had the Cavern and Huddersfield had the Builders, a live music venue that lasted for 10 years from the 1960s into the 70s.

It helped launch local bands and brought major names to the town, such as Wishbone Ash, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Medicine Head, Lindisfarne, Renaissance, Van Der Graaf Generator, Budgie, Babe Ruth and UFO.

The Vox Bar will open from 4pm for the exhibition of pictures, memorabilia and shared memories and the music will be provided later by Ckreed Blues Band and the Dana Ali Band. Entrance is free.

Dave Hewitt was bass player in the original Ckreed line-up that played the Builders and he went on to have a musical career in the US.

He is now part of the band supporting his wife, neo-soul singer Dana Ali.

Former Examiner jazz writer Laurie Stead sent me a couple of Brian Lawton’s pictures from the 1960s. Who were they and where are they now?

You could find out by going to the Vox Bar on Sunday.
