Festival season kicks off this Sunday with a full day of live music across two stages.
MFest will take over Mirfield’s showground, featuring more than a dozen rock, folk and ska-punk groups, many with close links to the town.
The event has been organised by Donal O’Driscoll, who also organises the very popular Crown of Lights Music Festivals in Heckmondwike.
He said: “This has been a massive undertaking.
“The first festival at a new venue is always the toughest one to organise but I was keen to see this happen for Mirfield.”
The 10 hour music festival will be opened by students from Castle Hall Academy then followed by 15 other acts, including Jasmine Wilkinson, Jeepster, Ska House, Liberate, Emerald City Underground, Propane Penny, Further From The Truth and Twist of Fate.
Other acts include The Little Big Band and the Blind Dead McJones Band from Leeds, Alex Quinn and The Man In The Street from Holmfirth, Roger Davies from Brighouse and Young Amphibians and String Villains from Heckmondwike.
The nominated charity for the event is Kirkwood Hospice. The organisers are hoping that festival goers will donate generously on the day. The festival is open to the public from 11am and people are urged to bring camping chairs.
As well as live music there will be facepainting, fairground rides and free circus and acrobatic activities.
A bar will be operating and festival-goers are asked to note that police have banned bringing alcohol onto the showground.
There is a strict no glass policy. Dogs are permitted on site but must remain on a lead.
Tickets cost just £10 for adults and £5 for under 18s with under 5s allowed in for free. Children under 16 have to be accompanied by an adult. All day parking at Castle Hall Academy costs £1.
