EVERYONE in racing is mourning the death of Sir Henry Cecil.

My first interest in the sport came through the top trainer of the time, Henry Cecil, and the top jockey, Steve Cauthen.

It just seemed in those days that I went and put my money on the combination in a race and later went to pick up my winnings.

I’m sure it wasn’t always like that, but it felt like it.

I never met Sir Henry myself, but I am told he was an absolute gentlemen.

And there was something special about him.

He had all the talent you could want as a trainer – he’s probably the best we’ve ever seen – and when Frankel came through it just seemed they had been destined for each other. The greatest horse and the greatest trainer.
