BRIGHOUSE comedian Johnnie Casson is headlining The Good Old Days at Leeds City Varieties Music Hall this weekend.

He will be one of five acts in the show, which is based on the BBC’s hugely popular programme of the same name that was first aired 60 years ago from the very same Leeds theatre.

The Good Old Days still runs for several weekends a year at its original venue, now newly-refurbished.

Johnnie, born in Halifax “but living in Brighouse for tax reasons” started his career in showbusiness as drummer with The Cresters, a comedy group that toured with The Beatles.

He has appeared on the stage of the London Palladium with Bruce Forsyth; on the Des O’Connor Show; in chat shows and on entertainment channels. Lancashire comedian Peter Kay has called him “my idol.”

Johnnie will be compered by Johnny Dennis, who has been hosting the Leeds Varieties shows for 25 years, and is appearing alongside soloist Andrew Robley; comedian Bobby Kaye; former Danny La Rue support act Judith Hibbert and banjo player Steve Gallery.

Tickets for the shows tonight and tomorrow, when there is a matinee and evening performances, are £15, concessions available. For information and bookings call 01132430808 or visit cityvarieties.co.uk

The Good Old Days will be at the theatre every weekend throughout March with a changing programme of performers.
