AN amateur historian is collating a mass of information on the Home Guard during World War Two and now needs your help.
Stephen Lewins from Morpeth in Northumberland has sent us this photograph of Holmfirth Home Guard and needs help to identify any of the volunteers on the photo.
“The army was very good at keeping records of officers who served, but very bad at keeping lists of the men who actually volunteered for Home Guard service,” he said.
“Many gave up more than four years to the Home Guard and were not recorded anywhere.
“I have been collecting the old photos for a long time now and tried to identify the location and names of the men.
“As time marches on there are fewer people to ask and soon there will be no-one.
“My intention is to name as many as possible as they do deserve credit.
“The final resting place for the mountain of photos and names will be the Imperial War museum.”
