A HUGE fundraising campaign is now going on to raise £3m for major renovation work at Kirkwood Hospice.

So with this Capital Appeal in mind, we thought we’d look back to how it all started more than 25 years ago.

The idea for the hospice began in the mid 1980s and one of the first major milestones was reached in July 1985 when the Kirklees Hospice Appeal funds reached the £500,000 mark.

The hospice society officials were delighted with the generosity of local people, but were asking for further efforts.
