Chol Theatre and Kirklees Countryside Service joined forces to mark National Tree Week with hundreds of schoolchildren under the theme Guarding the Green Wood. The children, some carrying streamer-clad banners, others paintings and posters joined the parade, which was headed by two larger than life characters, a goat and an old garden creature. Phool, the puppet gardener tending his miniature garden proved a popular stopping point on the route from Savile Town Nursery School. Youngsters from local nursery and infants and youth clubs had been working for two weeks on the environmental awareness project. Adam and Kim Strickson, of Chol Theatre, saw the event as an expression of the children's imagination and of the youngsters' view of their environment. 4th December 1991.11 of 22Greenhead College students have gone to the top of the class at tennis having won all their games so far in the National Midland Band Under 19 Tournament. The book tells the story of a girl who begins to doubt Santa Claus after her request for a new bicycle are not fulfilled. The book was based on ideas from Battyeford pupils and has been dedicated to Upper Horton CofE First School and Knowle First School, where Kirsty is a pupil. While researching it, Bill found out that Kirsty was the only child at her school not to have a bike. The story will be available to the public next Christmas.
