Former teacher Susan Whitwam is eager to learn more about this old family photo.

It shows what was known as a ‘pink party’ in 1909 and features her great-grandfather, but what was a pink party in those days?

Susan said: “If you look carefully you can see, written perhaps in snow on the left hand side, the word Christmas and on the right the date 1909. Between the two it says Pink Party.

“The man on the back left is my great grandad, Charles Thomas Whitwam, of Knowl Road, Golcar, who died later that year.

“I have no idea who the other men are, but I am intrigued. What was the Pink Party and why on earth were they standing around in the snow? Is there another copy of this photo around anywhere that might have other names on and which might throw light on the purpose of the Pink Party and why they have had their photo taken?”
