THE hall at Moldgreen Junior School will echo yet again with the massed guitars and voices of Moldgreen Junior (School) Folk Choir on Friday, February 10.
The reunion of choir members, parents and organisers will be in a hall decorated with posters and memorabilia from the choir’s brief but very busy and exciting history.
The event starts at 5pm and runs until at least 7pm at the school on The Avenue, Moldgreen.
The organisers are Roger and Mary Jones.
Mary – then Mary Kennedy – took over the choir in 1974 after another staff member became ill and conducted it for nearly six years to the end of 1979.
During that time the choir made many TV and radio appearances, recorded two albums of popular songs and performed at more than 50 local concerts.
The choir folded in 1980 with 60 members when Mary was promoted to deputy head at another school in Sheepridge.
The event at the Junior School will celebrate Mary’s 63rd birthday.
“About 30 people have already said they will be there, and there’s a couple calling in from Australia,” said Roger.
Mary still teaches music part time and is a flautist with Holme Valley Orchestra.
