There is a packed programme of music this month at Huddersfield University.

A mix of organ and violin recitals, improvised music, music installations, and workshops with music students and invited guests are being staged in two venues on the campus, St Paul’s Hall and the Phipps Hall.

On Thursday (February 13), Ensemble 360 will play at St Paul’s (1.15pm) for the second time this year with a programme of music by Leoš Janácek and Bohuslav Martinu for flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet and viola.

Later that day (7.30pm) in the same venue, there will be a rare opportunity to catch two of the world’s leading improvising musicians – Simon H Fell and Phil Minton – perform together.

On Monday, February 17, Ashot Sarkissjan will be at St Paul’s to play new and recent works for solo violin. The including premieres of pieces by postgraduate composition students at the university’s Centre for Research in New Music.

On February 20, Sounds of the Engine House will play at St Paul’s Hall (1.15pm) as part of its 2013/2014 tour.

Its programme will include music written by composers with a connection to the North of England.

New works written by the ensemble co-directors, Steven Jackson, Ben Gaunt and Eve Harrison, sit alongside music by established composers, including the University’s Liza Lim.
