APPARENTLY on Sunday afternoon at Eastlands, otherwise known as the Etihad Stadium, the 2012-13 Premier League title race will be decided.
This is the seemingly official stance of TalkSport, Five Live and a stack of red topped newspapers as Manchester United arrive to take on Bobby Manc’s champions in the glamour clash to be held in the neighbourhood of magical Miles Platting.
Please I urge you now that this is false advertising and nothing of the sort will happen.
The title will not be decided and even if the team from Salford wreck City’s stunning home record, it will not be the end of the story.
Last season in the month of October, City went to Old Trafford and won 6-1. A psychological blow it might have been, but perhaps in reality it wasn’t, given how close the title race was to go.
In the build-upI have even read one ‘pundit’ who described City as having ‘steam-rollered their way to the title’ last season.
If winning with virtually the last kick of the last game by goal difference is that emphatic then I live in an alternative universe.
Some people seem to have forgotten that City were eight points behind and out of the race last season with a handful of games left to go.
It’s boringly dull, but totally true that nothing gets decided now – I just hope that it is a decent spectacle worthy of the billing because very little is these days.
