FED UP of grimacing in front of Match Of The Day as Gary Lineker makes yet another cringe-worthy pun? Well just count your blessings – at least you are not having to watch Premier League football in the USA.
US television station Fox broke new ground at the weekend by broadcasting Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Arsenal, the first time an English match had been screened live on any of the four main networks.
And their idea of the perfect pundit to sit alongside former USA star Eric Wynalda – former News Of The World and Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan.
Given that they have the likes of David Beckham or Vinnie Jones on the doorstep, you have to wonder just what possessed the Americans to think that Morgan could offer the best insight into English football.
It is probably one of the few times I would have loved the king of stating the mind-numbingly obvious Alan Hansen to turn up just to do his ‘go on show us your medals’ put down.
And given that Morgan is reportedly a Gooner, their choice also showed a lack of balance and they could have perhaps benefited from having Gary Neville offering a contrary stance.
But I doubt that anyone who watches football of Fox stateside really bothers about the pundits as the programme is presented by Temryss Lane.
Miss Lane is a member of the Women’s Premier Soccer League team, Ajax of America, and has to be a better option as an anchor for a football show than Lineker – oops I appear to have ruined my original argument!
Just while we are on matters American, I apologise to readers of this column that the Oklahoma City basketball result was omitted from last week’s column.
To ensure you haven’t missed anything a narrow 62-59 defeat at Lubbock Christian was followed by a good win for the OCU Stars as they were 74-72 victors at home to Wayland Baptist of Texas, and next up is a clash with Southern Nazarene.
