THE people in Wales were really getting on my nerves on Saturday night – and that is not because my daughter phoned me from her home in Aberystwyth to ask for more money.

Beaten in the last couple of minutes of their last autumn Test by Australia, you would have thought the universe had ended as Wales were consigned to the third pot in the draw for rugby union’s 2015 World Cup.

As it happened the draw pitted them against hosts England and Australia – is this a disaster?

Well, I would argue it is not and there is every chance that the Wallabies, who escaped with a 14-12 win at the Millennium Stadium, and England will be secretly going ‘Oh no not the Welsh!’

Okay Wales have lost all their autumn games, while England are apparently now the best team in the world having beaten the All Blacks – but it only takes one Six Nations series to turn all that on its head (come on Italy!).

But reality must come to bear and Wales must realise that inside the time that will have elapsed before the next World Cup, one of their former stars Gavin Henson has managed in the past to be a rugby player, a reality television show contestant, a dancer in sequins and (allegedly) a rugby player again.

So a lot can change in two years and for all the teams in the World Cup draw it must be recognised that at some stage in the competition you will have to beat these teams if you want to win the cup – so cut out the moaning!
