FOR an autumn spectacular, Bonfire Night celebrations are in a class of their own.

So when our photographer Andy Catchpool set out to record some of the big public displays around the area, he came back with some stunning images. This image, taken at Cumberworth, is just one of them.

With its blazing, crackling fingers of fire and silhouetted figures it sums up why so many of us still get a buzz out of bonfires.

They are a chance to have a last get together in the great outdoors with family and friends before winter sets in, enjoy the spectacle of fireworks against the night sky and the kind of food that reminds us that chilly days aren’t all bad.

We think Andy’s picture deserves our Picture Of The Week slot. It could be your turn next week.
