THE sky looks surreal yet angry in this striking photograph of Huddersfield town centre.

The sunset was taken from Almondbury by Len Vasiljevs and to capture the full dramatic effect he took three different exposures to create this image.

Len was living just off Somerset Road when he took the photograph, but he has recently moved to Perth in western Australia.

He and his wife Kathryn had lived there for five years before but then moved back to Huddersfield in March 2008.

Len, who is a print estimator and an offset lithographic printer, said: “Photography has always been an interest of mine, but I became more serious about it in 2008. I take various types of photographs, but landscapes are probably my favourite.

“I also like to experiment with high dynamic range (HDR) photography – and this image is one of those.’’

Huddersfield’s past can be seen in the Victorian Town Hall while the university has increased beyond recognition in recent decades and this is reflected in its main block dominating the skyline.
