THIS stunning photograph of the newly revamped lake and bandstand at Greenhead Park was taken by Fixby reader Pat Conaghan who was doing a Nordic Walk at the time.

And although it looks like dusk, the photograph was actually taken mid-morning.

The retired headteacher and his wife, Mary, were with 35 other people on the walk around the park when Pat stopped to capture this moment to remember.

Pat – who was the headteacher at Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School in Heckmondwike – said: “Since retiring from the headship in 2008 I have been able to indulge in two activities I really enjoy – walking and photography and this was an opportunity to indulge in both.

“As far as photography is concerned, I am well and truly entrenched in the category of amateur and love photographing both people and landscapes.

“I think the transformation of Greenhead Park is amazing. As our group strode out in true Nordic style we passed couples strolling, young – and not so young – jogging and a group of young mums, complete with pushchairs, walking around together. The young mums were to be seen later on our second circuit in the bandstand doing an exercise routine.’’

Pat added: “Greenhead Park is now a place that the people of Huddersfield can be proud of and I can’t wait to see it in the summer sunshine.’’
