Built in the late 1960s, this week’s Our House at Fleminghouse Lane, Waterloo, is a home which has grown with its family.

Originally a three-bedroom bungalow, it was extended to suit the expanding family of Alan and Elaine Berry, who brought up their four children in this very spacious family home.

Elaine said: “After we moved in over 18 years ago, we extended upwards to create more bedrooms and a small study. It made such a difference and turned the house into a really versatile and spacious home.’’

The couple, whose children have now fled the nest, are preparing to downsize to a smaller property but stay in a similar area, convenient for both to travel to their work in nearby Mirfield and Ravensthorpe.

Elaine, who works as a receptionist in Mirfield, said: “We quite fancy a project and perhaps an older house. We’ll have to see what’s out there, on the market.’’

Their current home is situated at the Waterloo end of the lengthy Fleminghouse Lane and is ideal for travelling into Huddersfield, local amenities and access via Kirkheaton to the Mirfield side of town.

Accessed by a long drive, which can accommodate several cars, the house has gardens to three sides with plenty of space for family life.

Outside there is also a single garage, patio and decking areas, lawns and the garden is surrounded by trees, so making it very private.

Alan, who has a school furniture business in Ravensthorpe. said: “Because it is so spacious, it is a great party house. We’ve had some great times here with family and friends.’’

On the ground-floor the house is accessed by a porch, leading into an entrance hall which then leads through into a spacious breakfast kitchen, a separate dining room and a large lounge with double aspect and doors leading out into the garden.

On this floor there is also a utility room along with three bedrooms, a bathroom and an en-suite shower room. The master bedroom, on the ground-floor, has the en-suite shower and plenty of fitted wardrobes.

Elaine said: “This house is like a maze, leading to more accommodation than you would expect. The area at the back with bedrooms and the bathroom could easily be converted into a separate area, ideal for an elderly relative living with a family but who wants their own space.’’

Upstairs the extended area includes two spacious double bedrooms along with a smaller room, which Alan uses as his office. These two bedrooms are ideal for teenage children, who want their privacy and own space. There is also a good amount of storage space on this floor.

“People are always surprised at how spacious this house is, particularly with the additional rooms upstairs. Alan and I often sit in the kitchen and look out, always surprised at how much wildlife we see in the garden. Despite being amongst other houses, this property is very private, especially at the rear. Because the lounge is at the back, it is very quiet and tucked away,’’ said Elaine.

This is a very spacious home, ideal for a growing family, who want to be close to local amenities but enjoy a private and peaceful garden.

The property is being marketed by Bramleys estate agents 01484 530361.

PRICE: £280,000.
