PUBS and clubs are at the centre of our communities.

Despite the problems faced by licensees and landlords, our town and surrounding area boasts some of the finest pubs you could think of.

They function not just as pubs and clubs but places where the community can meet, where classes take place and in some cases even as a parcel delivery office.

We want to celebrate all that’s good about licensed premises – but we need your help to do so.

At the end of 2012 we asked pubs to get in touch to put themselves forward for our inaugural Pub of the Year award.

The pubs and clubs on this page did just that.

Now we need you to help back a pub on these pages by cutting out Pub of the Year tokens from your Examiner and handing them over at the bar.

The pubs will collate their tokens and send them in to us after the competition ends on Thursday, January 31.

The establishment which submits the most tokens takes the title of Examiner Pub of the Year – it’s that simple.

As well as the title the winner will scoop a full page advert in the Examiner, a special Pub of the Year banner for outside their building and a framed certificate. There are also smaller advertisements in the Examiner plus certificates for second and third placed winners too.

See page 2 for all your posters, flyers and tokens.

Examiner editor Roy Wright, said: "We’re delighted to be able to launch our Pub of the Year to the public.

"It’s the first time we’ve done this competition and are hoping you’ll help us make it a success.

"We recognise the importance of pubs and clubs to not only our social lives, but also to the local economy and the area’s identity.

"We now have a regular pub page every Friday, to help highlight the licensed trade in and around Huddersfield.

"By handing your tokens to you local you can make a real difference to their chances and show to a wider audience just what a fantastic place your local is."
