THERE were no fools, only hearses when Only Fools and Horses star Sir David Jason was among the cast and crew filming in three Huddersfield villages.

The actor, 72 today, is best known for playing Del Boy in the 1980s sitcom, but is now directing a pilot episode for a proposed new BBC series called Pearly Gates.

The sitcom is based around a family’s failing funeral business and will feature Fast Show and Harry Potter star Mark Williams in the lead role.

2. 250 car club motorists turfed off Huddersfield Tesco store car park by police

A 250-strong group of car enthusiasts were dispersed by police who say they were unlawfully meeting in a Huddersfield supermarket car park.

But they claim Tesco had allowed them to use the car park in Huddersfield town centre and say police have over-reacted.

Classic car owner Tim Price, 25, claims Huddersfield Tesco’s duty manager had verbally sanctioned previous meetings at the end of last year and had not raised any objections since then.

3. Worker escapes as Kirkburton takeaway goes up in smoke after petrol bomb blaze

FIREBOMBERS have attacked an Indian takeaway.

A worker at Zam Zam in Kirkburton managed to escape the building after a petrol bomb was believed to have been thrown through the doorway.

Police were called to the North Road takeaway at 12.15am yesterday after a bottle filled with a lit accelerant was thrown through the door of the property.

4. Rastrick gas leak causes chaos for Huddersfield drivers

A FRACTURED gas main at Rastrick caused chaos for commuters.

Throughout the day yesterday drivers had to put up with long delays as they tried to get through the traffic lights at the junction of New Hey Road and Clough Lane.

By the afternoon rush hour, traffic was backed up, in both direction, almost as far as the Bradley Bar and Ainley Top roundabouts.

5. Brighouse policeman jailed for attacking his wife and her new boyfriend

A JEALOUS police officer from Brighouse who tried to throttle his wife and then attacked her new boyfriend when he saw them out cycling has been jailed for eight months.

A court heard yesterday how Gavin Thrippleton’s wife Charlotte thought she was going to be strangled to death after he found out she was seeing another man and their marriage was over.

Thrippleton, who was a serving officer in the Greater Manchester force, lost his temper during a domestic argument in March 2010.
