WHAT a six months for Harry Redknapp!
One of the most sought-after managers in the Premier League, favourite for the England job and now out of work looking for his next appointment.
I was reading on Twitter – and was surprised at – the number of Tottenham fans thinking it was a good move by the club.
It doesn’t take long for people to forget where Tottenham were when Harry took over.
Bottom of the league if my memory serves me correctly and now two top-four finishes in three years.
What more do the club and fans expect?
Roberto Di Matteo showed at Chelsea that football management is mainly about keeping the players happy and getting them wanting to play.
His biggest strength was that he wasn’t Andre Villas Boas and, after letting the senior players get on with running the dressing room, they went on to win the Champions League.
Harry is the master at getting players to play, getting them enjoying their job and playing good football.
Whoever takes over – and I’m expecting David Moyes (2/5 favourite with Skybet as I write) to take the helm – they’ll more than likely be without Gareth Bale and Luka Modric, who will see Harry going as an opportunity to jump ship.
As soon as prices come out on Tottenham NOT to make the top four in the coming season, I’ll be emptying my piggy bank and having a bet.
WHAT a great tournament Euro 2012 has been so far.
Fast, entertaining, passionate. Great stuff.
However, I can’t say the same for some of the co-commentators.
Mark Lawrenson was awful in the BBC coverage of the Holland v Germany game.
Being permanently negative and sneering isn’t what people want to listen to.
It just shows how good Gary Neville is in the work he does for Sky.
Now I’m biased, as I work for Sky, but I want a colour commentator to enjoy the game and not only be part of the entertainment, but inform me as well – tell me something I didn’t necessarily think of or know.
